Hi guys,

I'm after recommendations on a lens for my Canon 450D for portrait work and also possibly wide angle work.

I want the portrait side of things for taking shots of the niece and nephews but I also think I need the wide angled set up as I also want to use it for taking shots of me with my fish captures so could need a bit more width.

My budget (UK) is probably £100-£150 so not a great deal but would love your help to steer me in the right direction

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Ian

100-150£ is not much..maybe you should think about EF 50mm f/1.8 II? Its very cheap and IQ is quite good. Large aperture is nice for portaits, it makes soft background.

Good quality, fast wide angle lens are very expensive. Better to start with 18-55 kit lens which should be ok for most normalconditions.

Sorry to say that you will struggle with that budget. The 15-85 is a much better lens than the len kit that come with the 450. i have just changed to the 15.85 and it is great.

Maybe you can find a used Canon 17-85 in that price range? Otherwise, the 18-55 is the only lens that fits in your budget and covers slightly wide-angle and some longer focal lengths.

Depends a lot on how wide. The older Canon 28-105 F 3.5/4.5 is a nice lens, but not super-wide.Looking for something with the wide end around 18mm and to portrait length of 55-85mm should fit the bill. You might consider a non image stabilized lens like the 18-200 Tamron (used).

The Canon 18-55 IS + 55-250 IS is a reasonably priced kit(especially used) in the US.I got both for a total of $260.
