I have the funds for a Canon 100mm IS and I am impressed with the results people get from it. Is that the best lens to get?
Planning to use it for macro shots and for portraits of people.

That said every account I have come across of the new IS has been very positive. If you can afford it, why not? I had the none IS but now have the IS model just because I wanted IS. It just depends on what you want, IS or none IS. You won't go wrong with either one.

Yes for portraits/general use not so much for macro. With macro shots you have an extremely thin depth of field and have to stop down the lens significantly to extend it. So you'll need to use a flash anyway. Luka C.D| My photos
