4. Still debating on the crop on this one. But for print, I'll most likely crop it tighter.

I just got started shooting baseball games at the little league level and I love it. I got on the field at a couple of games and the shooting was fast and furious to say the least. Went to another field and was thrown out by the baseball Gestapo (umpire without his Colonel Klink helmut) who was very rude about me shooting through the fence gate which was un-latched and just open enough to get my 70-200 through it. There was a woman who had her photo studio stand set up there who was allowed anywhere on the field she wanted to go. Whatever.....I guess the insurance regulations the ump was crying about didn't apply to her.
I have found that with these little guys you have to be fast with your lens as they tend to throw the ball around a lot and plays are constant. You got some great expression on these and the colors are very nice. Good job on these!

That woman was probably getting paid to shoot for the league. That is most likely she was left alone.

I shoot a lot, but I am machine gunning the shutter. Take your time and focus on the faces. Get some action in the shot and make sure they are in focus. That is what separates you from joe dad out there.

If you can't get on the field you will need some long glass or shoot through the fences. And remember, the officials can have you tossed if they desire.

Once you shoot a few games, you start to realize who makes plays and does what and you can anticipate shots after a while as well.

Post some photos. It's how we all learn.

Scott

I post them on my site and there is a link to my page on the league home page. Hopefully they are looking and buying!

Thanks for the info. These kids were in the 7-8 year old range so they weren't throwing or hitting very hard. The Ump acted like it was a Major league game and was way over the top with the way he talked to me. I am going to talk nice to some people at this field and see if I can get a field pass for one game. I have been asked to shoot the child of a friend of mine and would like to be able to get what he wants. Can they say anything to you about being on the field before the game, during warm ups? I can get the shots I need (swinging the bat) during that period and the rest through the fence without any problem. If not I will just wait for a time when we can meet at the field when there are no games being played and get them there. Thanks again!

i would get in touch with the league president or the head coach and see what they say about getting warm up shots and what not. You can always rent a 400mm prime and get shots as well.

If the league will not let you on the field, you may have to meet them at the field when there is no game and get your shots then. You could even bring some of lighting equipment with you then and really get some nice photos.

It will also allow you to plan out the shoot and allow some choice backgrounds.

Dad can hit him balls in the field and you can get him throwing to first or put him on the pitcher's mound and get shots of him pitching if you wanted to.
