Are we a bit weird?

So, I was at my brother's garage today getting my car serviced and while I was waiting I mentioned I'd brought my camera along just in case I saw anything interesting. He told me not to go around taking photos while his boss was there because it was "a bit weird".

I asked him what he meant and he said "Most people don't go around taking photos all the time."

Is that how non-photographers see us? Are we all a bit weird to some degree?

(BTW his hobbies are fast cars and speedboats)

Every body is a bit weird in one way or another.

Heh! Is it "a bit weird" for someone to have a "fast car" hobby where the only places you can actually legally drive fast is a little track where you pay money so that you can drive around in circles?

Hobbies are all irrational. Only sense it makes is if you share the hobby.

Spending fifty bucks to waste four hours hitting a small ball into the woods where it gets lost strikes me as a bit wierd too, but lots of people do it. They even spend thousands of dollars on the clubs so they can wander around losing balls.

Photography is a hobby for creative minds with control issues

My college age daughters are my source of information on all things cool, and sorry to say, we are not cool. Female photographers with eclectic taste in clothing are way cool and that goofy punk with the Nikon chimping on TV is cool, but any male over fourty with a camera is a cross between a creeper and a junior high school science teacher on the cool scale, the bigger the lens the closer to the creeper end of that scale. Lets just face it, we all need brand new BMW convertables or at least Land rovers to make up for it. sorry.

A lot of people are uncomfortable with a camera being pointed around in places where they are not usually encountered. Like an auto garage.

I think people have seen too many CIA movies.

Some businesses get very uncomfortable with people going around frequently taking pictures of their place of business. How do they know intent? Could be an artist, a photography student, corporate espionage, smear journalism, or even something along the lines of libel/fraud.

I prefer to be blatant. I'll walk in to a place with my DSLR around my neck, give the employees a big smile, hold my camera up and say I just want to take a few pictures, if thats OK. So far so good.

hahaha yes... some people wonder why am I standing beside my camera looking into the ocean for a long time sometimes in the dead of the night.... (doing long exposures)... I think they see me as weird.

some people also ask me why I don't include people in my photos (landscapes)... I don't think they will understand so I just smile. we are weird!! hehe

Trying to out smart a creature with a brain the size of a pea can also be deemed as weird,,I'm talking about fishing here..

Weird? Totally but hey, everyone's weird in their own way.

I feel weird too walking around campus with a big ass camera dangling around my neck.
