Not sure what I did to deserve it.. But my dh gave me a 5d2 for my birthday.. and not only that, he topped it up with the McDaddy lens!! I couldn't stop crying this afternoon.. :( :(

He got the 5d2 with the 24-105mm kit lens..
and then got the 70-200mm f2.8 II IS

Now, my dilemna is as much as I'd like the 70-200mm.. I find it too heavy and not sure I can really maxmize the use of it.. I just started doing Maternity/Newborn/Children portraits... and I do not plan to do weddings at all..

So, my question is.. given that 70-200mm funds, what lens can I get to replace the 70-200mm that will complement the 24-105mm kit lens? maybe a prime lens?

Thanks in advance.

T

What is a "dh" and how do I get one

How about an 85L or a 70-200 f/4?

Sell the 24-105. Sell the 70-200. You'll have roughly 3400 bucks...save 200 more and get 35L + 85L + 135L :)

My wife said the same thing about the 70-200 2.8L. I got her a 70-200 f4 and a 24-105L and she always goes back to the 70-200 2.8. Consider keeping this lens because it is one of the best you'll ever own and produces incredible images on a 5dmii.

If it's a gift, you can't sell it all. I'd keep the 24-105L and purchase the 85L for the portraits you take. You will not find a better lens for Maternity/Newborn/ Children shots. Even though it is heavy, it's more compact so I don't feel it as much. Also, make sure you get a good strap. There are plenty of threads here on what to consider.

I would keep the 70-200 f2.8 IS MK II. It is an outstanding lens, especially on a 5D II. If you have children, you will want this lens as it is great for events, sports, portraits, etc. Once you start seeing the pics you can produce, you will forget about the weight. Even my 16 yr. old daughter has no trouble handling ours.

If you must sell it, I would get a 135 f2 as a replacement and maybe a 1.4X tele-converter for times you want the reach. With the money left over, the 35 L is also very nice and compliments the 24-105 for times you might want faster aperture or for low light.
