is the EF 85 L II only the best choice for portraits?
it also goes for street?

It can of course be used for other things, but it's overkill compared to arguably nice and less expensive street lenses. For street shooting i would go for the 35L, 50L or the 135L.

The very narrow DOF ability will allow you to selectively focus your subject. The only drawback is the slow AF, but it has not ruined my experience with the lens. flickr

When you use it on your 5d camera, then it is perfect for street as you do not want to come close to the subject. I wish I could have budget to get 85mm 1.2L too ![]() -Santacruz too slow for weddings unless you're using it for the bridal portrait. Jerome

I will politely and humbly disagree with this statement. It's worked for me, although it may not suit others. flickr

Even on a 5D, I've enjoyed using it for candids. Shooting weddings I usually mount an 85L and a 35L to two bodies and I'm good to go.
