And how do I fix it?

A few days ago I saved a picture and the computer asked me something-but I don't remember what. Ever since then, my background has been screwed up. At first, the icons all had blue backgrounds almost as if they were all highlighted but not quite. Tonight, I noticed that the image I have for the background is only showing the upper left corner and the quality is horrible. I went in to properties, desktop and selected center and I got this.

The image is good, it's just small and stuffed in to the lower right corner of my screen. I then tried to stretch the image but that brought me back to square 1 where the upper left corner of the image is all I get and the icons on the desktop have that blue highlight look to them. Here is a screenshot of that.

Photoshop is giving me an error message, too. It says something about a display driver and GPU. "Photoshop has encountered an error with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements. GPU enhancements can be enabled in the Performance panel of Preferences." Not having a clue where to find that, I checked the control panel and struck out.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated as I'm completely lost. I'll even buy you a beer!

Thanks.

Edit-it seems that I screwed up the pictures. The one on top should be on the bottom and they didn't get placed where I intended them to be. Hopefully you get the idea.

I have no immediate answer to your question but if you are serious about photo editing you might find a plain grey desktop better then the Microsoft blue or your wallpaper.

Click the settings tab on the right, in this box you can set your desk top size, i.e Resolution click one of the settings and click ok it will give you a few seconds to see if this setting is right, if it is click apply, if it's not click No and pick another till your happy..:D

What's happened is your background photo has moved your settings so that the photo fits the screen..;)

Also to stop your icons moving around or to place where you wish and keep them in place, Right click anywhere on your desktop and detick> Auto Arrange Icons and Align Icons to Grid

Hope this help's..

I've had the same background photo for years and it always fit the screen perfectly. I haven't changed any of the settings (resolution etc). The icons aren't moving-they just have that blue around the letters now. I wish I could remember what the computer asked me about saving a picture. That's when the weirdness started. It's just annoying-it doesn't have any affect on performance that I know of. With the computer being 8 years old, I don't want to spend much money-if any-getting this fixed.

The background photo should be in the center of the screen. It is when I first start the computer up. Once it's done 'warming up', it then shrinks and goes to the lower right corner.

As for editing photos, why would my background make any difference? Once Photoshop is open, I can't see the background anyway. To be honest, it really doesn't matter. I do very little work in Photoshop as it's taking me a very long time to learn it. It's a motivational problem rather than an ability problem.

I appreciate the feedback and the help. I've tried cursing at it and I even threatened the throw the computer in to the pool. *sigh*

I give up. My patience has been tried and my last nerve stepped on. Since I can't shoot my computer (I'm in the city) I think I'm going to throw this )(*&)##$*) thing in the pool. I'm one step away from foaming at the mouth and barking at the moon.

Damn computers.

Sometimes windows does this. Just go into the display preferences, get rid of it, then do it again.

Didn't work. However, I found something that did!

The problem is a webpage is being displayed on your desktop as an active desktop item. To recenter the wallpaper, you have to remove it.

Desktop Properties>Desktop>Click on "Customize Desktop"> Web tab

Chances are a URL is checked here. make sure nothing is selected on this page and click ok. My computer thought for a bit then centered the wallpaper :)

The above is from this website turned up in Google. http://social.technet.microsoft.com …71-45e5-9872-e5aa66d60743 (external link)

Problem solved!

Great! You realise the desktop image is never seen except when you boot, right? :p
