Heading off to FIA later on. Not planning to lug my whole kit bag along, it could be a long day.

Just wondering if I'd be better off with my 17-40 or 24-105 on my 5D2 for some of the static displays?

The 100-400 will be firmly attached to the 40D for the duration.

Evening all. Had a wedding today which went well, except for when the venue owner had a go at me for putting some of my business cards on the bar and a few of the tables...thing is I'd asked a member of staff first who said it was fine. I think the owner was a bit of a control freak. P'd me off for a while so I went and took some photos of a butterfly! :D

Nice flutterby Mike.

Just a cautionary tale from me - I was banging off a few shots at random at many of the interesting things around the tourist part of Edinburgh last week and next day it dawned on me I seemed to be shooting everything in the region of 1/5000 - 1/8000 second. I don't need to tell you I'd taken a few shots in some big church and forgot to set the ISO back to 400 - it was still at 1600, which is ok when necessary but it spoilt a few of my later shots that day.

Indeed, bit slower and maybe less spins?

What aperture where you shooting at?

Mike wrote in post #10591796 (external link)
Nice effort but it all looks out of focus which is a shame. Perhaps try being a bit further away and focusing on a mark before you begin.

souporman wrote in post #10591922 (external link)
Very cool, but very out of focus. Jealous that you got a chance to try this out though...looking forward to your future shots :)

I know that they are not in focus but it was a first go so my excuse is I'm still learning ;) I shot at f8 but next time I may go for something smaller as that may help with getting sparks not lines with a slower swing but this has to be fast enough to keep the wire wool alight.
More practices is needed which is all part of the fun.

Another busy week capped yesterday with a 2am start from Romania and 2 hour wait for my bags at Luton

Interesting shots Dom. Is that your face I can see at the centre of the first one?

A little giggle for the fanboys out there - I give you Darth Vader and his iPhone4 problems :)

Not promising though as I may have a paid portrait session!
