A friend of mine uses Bowens, but at £2500 its a little pricey!! lol

I just have 2x430ex's atm, they are ok, but the cycle time is a little slow.. I think what Kev has mentioned is a pretty good set-up, or was? Have you looked at "the flash centre"?

Morning all,
I'm feeling crap today, s'pose it's being back at work ;-)a

I've got some Maternity stuff coming up which should be fun...

And I'm also seriously considering investing in a lastolite hilite...
Great for the kids portrait work
http://www.lastolite.com/hilite-backgrounds.php (external link)

Looks like a good piece of kit and a worthwhile investment. Can they be lit with flashguns or do you need studio lights in them?

These two having a much more "up close & personal" feel are the best of the bunch IMO especially the last one :D

Thanks Laurence. The second one was shot from the hip so was a hit or miss type of shot and the only one of the 5 or so that I shot that way that came out in focus! I never quite have the nerves to stand up close to random people and shoot so the shoot from the hip way is much more discreet. :D

I've got 580ex and 2 sb-26's and a portaflash 336vm studio light but wanted 2 studio lights and will prob ditch the sb-26's

Their quadra system (external link) might be ok? It always seemed to me that it was sort of a stop-gap between flash guns and proper portable strobes.

It seems like something you could easily outgrow though, but I don't imagine it would be too hard to sell on if that were the case.

ps: I'm not talking from any sort of experience here, so feel free to ignore what I say :)

good luck! I've got 2 maternity sessions booked in over the next week and 1 this afternoon, word is spreading about my maternity photos ;)

Time to upgrade my studio lights, I need 2 lights any recommendations.

Thanks,
I'm also after lights, the Prom photos went down a storm, and I need to have more power/control.

The Lastolight Hilite loks like a great Hi Key background for confined space.

I offered a Maternity shoot to a friend last week, it turns out they know about 8 people pregnant all due about 4 weeks apart , could be a shoot a month! plus the baby ones as well!

You can use studio lights, or just little flashguns (theres a hole each side for a speedlite each side if required).

That looks pretty cool as well, and quite affordable. Looks like they offer it up as a rental package as well...that might be worth checking out Ian. Could see if it does everything you want before taking the plunge :)

Tis the season I suppose :) Great opportunity though mate, and that Hilite thing would be ideal for that too.

That is why street togging is a type that I very very rarely do, as for going in close somewhere I recall seeing a picture of HCB doing just that. Not sure if it was setup shot or a PJ following him around for a "Life" magazine or similar article???

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

With practice though you can fire from the hip quite accurately. It's just a case of getting used to your focal length

...

I have 2 custom sharpen actions, one sharpens more than the other. Since getting the mark IV, I almost always use the lesser of the two.

Any chance you could share the settings on these actions?
