Whats lens for BWC then?

Am thinking of doing a big PC reshuffule as recently my filing system got a bit jumbled recently due to filling my drives up.

How do you file your pics?

Please take the 400 2.8

I would love to see the look on the faces of the general public. Of course you will only get shots of close up eyeballs & ears with something that long in most of the enclosures.

Anything from 24 to 200 mm is useful really, but the enclosures can be quite dark in places. (red squirrel enclosure especially) so wide apertures are helpful.

I tend to rely on the ol' 100-400 - covers a multitude of sins and I've probably taken the bulk of my BWC shots on that lens...

and hopefully the Squirrels will be out in their new walk through enclosure! :D

lovely shot and it's a great enclosure - a friend and I were lucky enough to get a sneak preview from the owner several months before the official opening, it's a great environment for the little fellas and also attracts lots of different birds too... looking forward to it, haven't been for a long time!

100-400 and 24-70 sound like good options then.

Sounds like the 300mm and 400mm maybe over kill. Its the bird flying display thats my main interest so want to make sure I have something that covers that.

They did seem to love it in there, most were up high in the trees sleeping or people watching like this guy which I posted before...

the 300 for the flying would be good as its under a tree and a bit dark, I used the 135 +TC last time but could have done with more reach

bring a longer lens for that - probably the 300, as the "arena" is not that large, and I'd recommend leaving it in the car boot as the flying is at the end of the day so you don't want to carry it round all day! :D

Bit of street shooting after work last night then shot a mates band. A few posed group shots in the lobby by the toilets  not ideal and then some stuff whilst they were playing. Was a dark underground venue in earls court area - hoping to get some decent stuff for them but band/live act shoots are quite difficult. Any failsafes you use Ian/anyone else?

well dark underground venues like the ones I started shooting in Camden are very tricky. Maybe have a work with the lighting guy to get some white lights into the shot or ask if the lights are on a repeat cycle. Shoot manual, expose for the yellow lights, if you get hit with red or blue then it might under expose but I'm personally not interested in red or blue people. Also have a work with your mates to make sure they don't dive round the stage all the time so you can get some sharp shots. Other than that I wing it everytime at each gig ;)
oh remote flash the drummer? as they are always at the back in dark corners.

thanks mate. I think i should have posted this before last night! How do you expose for a particular colour light?

Ive got a feeling some of the people came out red - bt hopefully i can fix that in post or at least reduce it. Didnt think of the drummer flash and would have been perfect to test out the new triggers. Thing is the venue was mainly sit down so it was difficult to get about without getting in peoples way or being too intrusive with the on board flash (not the built in one obv ;))

there's no need for a tripod IMO, I would suggest a beanbag or monopod if you need some support - the enclosures are very photographer friendly so you should be alright handholding... ahh I hadn't even thought of the weather! they have a nice enough coffee shop! :D
