Great stuff. It sure is a fun, and more importantly cheap, toy isn't it :)

Man, has it been a week since I've been here. Wow.

Hope everyone's been having a good bank holiday. My wife and I just bought bikes, so we're out and about as much as we can do (well, when my wife's bike doesn't fall off the roof of the car every few minutes....).

Welcome back, Pete. Any pics on said bikes? :)

Is this the start of the Chernobyl pics? Where are they all? Have I missed a thread somewhere?

Did someone create a new share thread for the Chernobyl pics I can link to in the first post archive?

morning all,

I don't think there's been any Chernobyl pics yet - Kevin posted a couple of images, one from their flat and one of the missile base... no radioactive action yet it seems! (I'm waiting for them too!)

did see these fellas yesterday though!

Morning all. :)

Lee, we saw the Red Arrows on Friday too, they flew very low right over the top of our house, created an awesome noise! :D

Well that was a good weekend, cleared out the garage on Friday and took a load of stuff to the tip. We both had the mother & father of all hangovers on Saturday but still had a full day of stuff to do so were a little weary by the end of the day. My Godson's christening was on Sunday so SWMBO was in charge of the camera for that. And we finally managed something of a quiet day yesterday! Back to work for a rest! ;)

Blimey, took the lens cap off and wasn't expecting such a large expanse of glass in such a small lens. Fortunately I've a fitting UV filter that's unused from when I bought my 400D many moons ago that fits. It's a Jessops but here's hoping not too much quality loss.

See what you think but when I had a Jessops uv filter I definitely noticed a drop on quality and worse flare

Ok bag expert.

I need a camera bag, preferably a backpack. At the moment the layout I'm thinking is 5D with 85 1.8 attached, 40D with 24 1.8 attached (24 is similar length to 85 and just a touch wider), 50mm 1.8, 70-200 F4, 5 speedlights, few small modifiers and my triggers.

The slingshot 200 sort of does it but the speedlights are out and the 70-200 is in a lowepro lenscase on the side. The sling strap is also awkward with the Cotton Carrier vest on. I'd like if possible to be able to grab the camera from the bag without having to set it down and unzip everything and rummage, but realise that that may not be the easiest thing with my wish list.

Just had an e-mail from Jacobs stating they have a sale on Lowepro at the moment. Can't remember what you had decided on in the end

Matt we stayed here (external link) but it is a couple miles out of town and is a taxi ride.

We stayed at another place a couple of years ago which is walking distance but I can't remember its name. I will ask Kris when she gets in.

Ok so if you remember before I went away I mentioned that my family breed fighting and running bulls in Portugal, have done for the last 80+yrs, so I have grown up around these animals all my life......

No. 163 not a great shot, but I'll tell you the story around this one.............600kgs of pure muscle 4years old and in his prime. The day before this, the bulls for fighting in the ring are brought through the streets, all main routes are blocked off etc...........now bear in mind that the village is in full fiesta time for a full 5days, loads of drinking/eating and general merryment. Bulls are brought through the streets at approx' 2am this time 6 bulls all about the 600kgs mark. Now buy about 2am there are plenty of people that are well tanked up and fancy themselves as potential bullfighters out of the 20K that were there that night.

Bearing in mind that these are not running bulls but pure fighting bulls for the arena they should know better, anyway no.163 decided he did not like the look of a particular group of young men and I kid you not, even if your 100mts away this thing will run you down in a blink of an eye...........suffice to say that 3 very seriously injured men were carted off to hospital all with broken ribs, gored and internal injuries.

I never knew there was a difference between Spanish and Portuguese bull fighting, doesn't seem so bad that the tips of his horns have been cut off. One thing I think is really unfair is when the bull wins he gets put down. Personally I think he should come out to play again. I know they do this in Spain don't know about Portugal

I'll get some more up............but have ended up in hospital in my younger days.............if your ever on a bull run NEVER wear a belt on your jeans......ask me how I know and I'll show the scars next time we're out

Bit like wearing a ring.....welcome back

i did indeed, cameras and other electric equipment werent allowed - we were told this was for safety reasons as they might be dropped and break the glass but i suspect it was for commercial ones as park employees were happily lugging all sorts photographic stuff around taking pictures to sell on to tourists. However i did manage to sneak my ipod nano on and took this footage. It is unnerving walking over such a drop:

I'm sensing a POTN Canal Day Trip/Meet :)

they're always offering for the wife and I to borrow the boat - and considering she know's what to do to make it drive it's a definite possibility! maybe one for next year when the weather's more reliable?

jnO wrote in post #10806458 (external link)
Cheers Lee. I do like the Zebra shot. Loved Paignton Zoo but the weather was rubbish :( Spent most of the day enjoying the walk and the animals rather than spending it behind a lens.

Keen for some more light painting, no wide angle lens anymore but I am sure I can sort something out with the 50 :)

I've not been to Paignton - better add it to the list of places to attend!

I'll check with the diary keeper and perhaps we can sort out something on a school night now the evenings are darker - I have enough wide glass to lend you something to use if the 50 isn't working out!

I went for the dakine, the two bags in one feature means it'll be very handy.

I think the Arrows must bring their own angry sky as it was really bright and cheery the rest of the time as the horrific sun burn keeps reminding me!
