Now that they are eating meat Asu and his brother Bawa can often be seen at opposite ends of and bone, the concept of sharing is not one these boys understand. Kay, please tell me you got that shot! Asu and his brother will stay at WHF until they are at laest 18 months old when hopefully he will move on to another facility to be paired with a female Who could resist this one? This is Ranschan, an enchanting, enigmatic looking Snow leopard who watches the world pass by from his tree top perch. Thankfully he came down and allowed me this portrait... He weighs 35 Kg (approx 70 lbs), and eats on average between 4 – 6 Kg (8 – 12 lbs) of meat 3 times a week. Normal feeding days are Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. There is nothing rushed about Ranschan — he contemplates everything from eating and washing to sleeping, and will simply disappear up his tree if not in the mood for entertaining the crowds. However he may be coaxed with titbits and may even allow a scratch on his head if you are lucky. I dind't dare scratch his head, but got another photo whilst he releaxed in the shade. ![]() All shot with 5DII and 70-200 F/2.8, and a tiny lick of fill flash. I like this one best of the two & your narrative is great. Swaffs wrote in post #10232249 You definately did misss a great day. The Serval is called Malawi, named after the country in Southern Africa where these cats can be found. Born at London Zoo he moved to WHF in Nov 2006. Weighing approx 15 Kg he is fed 6 times a week on a mixed diet of rabbit, pigeon, rat, mice, quails, day old chicks and a selection of meat. He's quite shy, and not surprising when his enclosure is next to the Three Lion brothers!!!! he gave me a stare though! ![]() That Serval was a difficult subject!!! But methinks you have captured its character very nicley Jonathan wrote in post #10232251 Lovely portrait Rich. These lions, or any of the Big Cats at WHF can be adopted, for very little money. http://www.whf.org.uk/cats.cfm?id=lion Or just pop over to the site and have a great read, I know they would appreciate any manner of donation towards their amazing cause. The centre and staff are fantastic and very passionate about care and conservation of the animals. Here's a little message from Tiny's Diary "As usual we lions were pretty tired and slept most of the day. I hope the visitors do understand this. A lion life is sooo exhausting, especially when it gets warmer now. We would like to assure our guests that we like to see you. . . . ." I'll post some more tomorrow.
