Yesterday I put my 500D with its external flash onto a counter top and it over-balanced and fell to the floor. It is fine - no external damage at all. The flash gun broke off so I have to fix the foot of that. However, the camera seems to have lost all knowledge of the built in flash. The flash menu has disappeared from the menu and the flash button on the left hand side of the body does nothing.

I can't find a software reset in the menus.

Anyone have any ideas how I might proceed?

David

It sounds like the micro switch on the hot shoe has been jammed in when the external flash foot broke off. This will make the camera think that the external flash is on the camera which prevents the built in flash from working. There are lots of posts about ways to try and fix this so just have a search on the forum. Good luck!

Yup. That's what it was. It's sorted now.

Thanks for the help.
