My Fiancée (*brief blast of trumpet voluntary on vinyl, cut short with a slight scratch*) wants to upgrade her 350

She wants mainly:
- a bigger screen
- Video

She likes to take pictures in near dark without a tripod, and I'll just mention that her view is that it is the ACT of photography that is what is most enjoyable, more so than producing prints or posting pictures. Not hugely relevant to buying a new camera but I mention it as we had been looking at the panasonic 3 fourths cameras (DP 1, DF-1, whatever, all of them) as it is so small and light but the screen and VF are horrendous and she realised that what she really enjoyed about photography was looking through the VF , composing images.

I had assumed that the 550 was the way to go with the caveat that there would probably be a 650 near ready (sept?). She is in no rush, but getting the upgrade bug strongly.

She wanted to look at Noink, Oly, etc but I pointed out that this would prevent her sharing lenses (occasionally:~()

So - in her mind there might be something better (lighter, smaller) out there than the 550 (or 650 if its near)

what are your esteemed thoughts OH panel of expoits?:D???

Most likely no 650 soon. What sensor are they going to put in it? Canon has no new APS-C sensor yet.

I think the 550D/T2i is the duh choice here.

550D for sure. There won't be a successor to that camera until next year.
There are a few smaller cameras out there but, as you said, no lens sharing then.

According to dpreview (external link) it's currently the best camera in the segment...
