Lens mount problem

I have a 28mm 2.8 lens that I am unable to mount on my 350D.

When I try to mount the lens I am unable to turn it to the point of locking. I have not tried to force it. There are no problems mounting my other lenses.

In the past I've been able to mount the lens, but it always felt very stiff removing it, like it was a very tight fit. I can mount the lens on an old film Rebel I have, but it's very stiff, like it used to be with the 350D.

I've checked screws for looseness, and have visually compared the mount to my other lenses, and can't find anything obviously wrong.

I bought the lens used a year or so ago, mounted it to the camera right away to check it out, and used it with no problems. Problem is, I didn't dismount it right away but instead left it on the camera for several months, using it. If I would have realized the stiffness problem, I would have returned it. Live and learn.

Any ideas?

likely the lens mount of the actual lens is messed up. do you know (can you see) any marks of where the lens may have been dropped? can you maybe try tightening the screws of the mount of the lens?
Of course, you could send the lens to canon, but they would charge you 150 bucks for fixing it...(prolly more than the lens is worth)
good luck

No sign of any problems resulting from a drop, no screws loose. I've compared the mount, using a magnifier, to one on a lens that I don't have a problem with, and everything appears identical - but it feels like something's binding somewhere. I guess Canon service would be the way to go, but I agree it's probably not worth it.

Get a decent caliper and start measuring dimensions of a lens that mounts properly and the one that does not. It's very likely that you will discover a dimension or two that's not right and then you can figure out how to correct it.
