Ok, the above experiment didn't go so well.

How about this then.

Thanks so much for your time/tutorials/suggestions Martin. As I was driving around today, I found myself imagining a few views in black and white! I think this could become a serious habit. :)

You have done a wonderful conversion there, hard to tell mine and yours apart, the only thing i would say is use the unsharpe mask on the flowers set at ammount around 20~radious about 2 and threshhold zero, this will give luminace to the forground, just experiment to see, maybe select separate areas on the flowers so they arnt all bright

John, thanks for inviting us to play with your photo. I may have gotten a little carried away with some edits, but here's my version.

I guess for me, right now, it's a matter of learning how to use some of the techniques and replicating some of the effects that Martin has been so successful with. From there, I hope to grow towards my own style and techniques, just a tad bit wiser.

this is not an NBA kind of photo

That is what I did like about it. I should have said so. The BnW adds to gritty playground feel to it.

News:

I just won a photo contest, and as the winner chooses the next subject, guess what I chose. Yes, B&W photography :)

Not only that but I took every chance to link to Martin's site.

This pis was taken this Wednesday. It's the first time i've done any Digital pics of the coast. The colour one is really good but B&W gives a better detail of the cloud effect.....but people may have different ideas......C & C of any kind welcome??

To everybody (and especially to Mannytkd),

Why don't you participate in the B&W contest I'm talking about.

If interested, let me know and I'll help you with the boring stuff (password, loading the pics & such).

As i said before Karl this is the best conversion by you so far, the editing is delicate as not to show, the sky and forground tones look natural, build a print dont bang it, you certantly built this

To Mannytkd (Karl?)

How about you submit "Road to Nowhere" in that contest. This is a very special photo.
