For you folks out there that have a 24L II--do you find your hood to be quite easy to spin on and off? Like maybe too easy?

Mine is to the point where I don't trust using the hood on it during crowded events because it's easily knocked out of place, and will show up in the photo if it's skewed too far.

I'm tempted to buy a replacement hood to se if its any better, but if they're all like this then I'll just gaffer it.

Thanks!

Mine is a bit loose too. In the beginning I got many shots with dark corners, but now I have trained myself to always make sure that the hood is in the right position before I take a shot. I love the lens so I put up with it, but it'll be interesting to see if others have the same problem and how they have solved it.

No problems with mine though but I'll check it out again when I'm home.

I had a similar problem with my 24-70 hood once I got it. Solved it with black electrical tape on the inside of the bayonet fitting on the hood itself.

No problems here. Mine is pretty secure. I did have a 17-55 hood years ago that always turned on me and would mess up a great many photos :(

Wow, really?! Weird.

Mine's an issue, when I'm at a wedding or something trying to squeeze my way around a dance floor it inevitably get's bumped, and remembering to make sure it's straight is a pain. Taping it is an OK solution, but I usually keep the hood reversed in the bag, so I'll have to keep taping it... A new hood is about $40 from B&H, might be worth picking one up just to try... I can always return it if it's not any better.

By comparison the hood on my 35L is so tight it's actually difficult to put on. Makes me wish all lenses had a lock on the hood like the new 70-200.

Mine is well fixed ...
But to tell the truth I don't use it that much anymore. it's not really convinient as a workhorse lens for indoor and walkaround use.
I dream of an integrated hood.

Mine's not lose. That said, it's a lot more usable than the mk1. It felt like I had to break something before I can get the hood on/off on the mk1. :D

I had a loose hood on my 24-70 - this fix isn't for everyone, but I took a lighter to it and heated the plastic slightly and touched the lighter to it to make a very slight indentation, and it snugged right up - now I have no worries at all about it coming off (and the mod isn't noticeable)

They will all get loose with time .. plastic wears and surfaces get smooth over time.

Mine is pretty loose I guess as I just returned from Disney trip with my family and had way too many photos with dark corners because the hood rotated without me noticing. It hasn't happened to me with any other lens. I guess I'll have to pay more attention when using this particular lens.

I may look for a round hood instead of the petal hood so that even if it rotates it shouldn't impact the image. Not sure if I can find one though that can provide sufficient coverage.

I'm pretty sure that's the point of a petal hood. Given the wide field of view, any round hood would have to be ridiculously huge to do much good. I'd be surprised if anyone made one.

But as for the 24 hood, I just got mine today and though it might loosen with time, it's fine as of now. I'd try a replacement.
