Great day out at sunny Oulton Park, perfect setting for some of the close racing and top machinery supplied by the VSCC. Didn't really get going with the camera until the racing started, so here's a selection of my afternoons efforts.

All a mix of 100-400 and sigma 500...

1/ Frazer Nash alone upfront

2/ ERA in the paddock (17-70)

3/ Riley chasing Nash, with MG tying a little too hard to catch

4/ ERA again, this time over Hill Top

5/ more close racing

6/

7/ MG followed close by HRG

8/ And rather nice Maserati to finish

Thanks for looking, comments welcomed...

Fantastic shots and many more in your gallery. I was there too, couldn't believe how many spectators were there!

Great stuff David (I've also commented over at TP).

@ Dodger - I actually thought there were way fewer spectators than I was expecting. There certainly didn't seem that many people around by Knickerbrook in the afternoon.

It wasn't up to the standard of previous years, which is surprising as VSCC meetings usually have bigger and better grids. Sign of the times.

Biggest crowds were on The Avenue but as the day went on, getting hotter, a lot left early.

I hope the grids are better for Cadwell.

My first time at this meeting Ken so don't have anything to compare it to, but apart from the 1950s roadsport race, I didn't feel short changed at all by the entry and it certainly gave some great racing, particularly the handicap races.

As for the temperature, at 1845hrs as I climbed up to the highest point on the M62, the car was saying it was 28 deg C.....

Never saw you yet on Saturday, but am planning a trip down to Cadwell for the vscc meeting and will keep my eyes peeled for you there.

Simon.

A thermometer trackside was in the mid thirties in the afternoon and we had a marshall taken to the medical centre with the heat.

I have done all the VSCC meetings at both circuits since they came back to Oulton in 2005 and this year the grids are well down. I am always pleased to see "old smokey" the Napier Bentley and trying to get a shot with maximum smoke.

I'll see you at Cadwell and hopefully have a chat about the 7D. I am far from impressed with mine, I just can't trust it like I can the 1D. Probably my worst Canon purchase in 32 years.

David, it looks like you had a good day with a nice mixture of shots.

Sorry to hear you're not getting on with your 7D Ken. I feel the exact opposite to you, and think the 7D is most probably the best camera that I've ever owned. It is just as accurate and consistent as my mk II, even if it does have different handling characteristics. In fact, Saturday was the first time I've used my mk II for more than one or two shots since I bought the 7D at the end of September last year.

Simon.
