Well two stories rolled into one here. First I know this isn't the best shot, I liked it and wanted to post it.

So now for the stories. I run a home theater forum that has a handful of hobbiest photographers who participate. We run a weekly challenge where we all shoot something from a topic and then the winner - based on a poll in the thread - picks the next week's topic. This week's topic was advertisements. While I suspect most of the other guys will post pictures of actual advertisements they saw (i.e. a funny billboard or sign) I decided to actually make my own ad, hence the logo and text.

Second story... My intent was to go out and try my hand at balancing strobe with ambient and get some nice sunset shots of my car. Unfortunately once I got setup I discovered that I only had one cable to fire my Calumet's with my Cactus v4 trigger (I have two receivers but I only had one cable). So I thought when it got a little darker the second one would trigger optically. Unfortunately I could never make that happen and still have the lights where I wanted. So from a strobist perspective the entire shoot was a bust. But I did manage to snag the attached natural light shot and through the magic of post processing, salvage it.

After all that, if you're still reading, here is my shot.

Shot and lighting are great. Only thing I am seeing that I would change is the direction the tire is pointed.

turn the wheels the other way, play with the middle slider in levels and you got a good picture.

Nice light on it & it looks pretty good, so...

But I did manage to snag the attached natural light shot and through the magic of post processing, salvage it.

...you didn't so much "salvage it", as get what I would have been shooting for in the first place! So you weren't allowed to screw it up! :D ;)

Thanks... I will say this, if I go get some more I will be better prepared. I didn't have my tripod so the above shot was at ISO 800 and the salvage comment was more based on my intent. I intended to get the car lit with two studio strobes so the salvage was maybe more like this shot is what salvaged the SHOOT. But again, thanks!

No problem. FWIW, my tripod is always in my trunk, a spare CF card is always in my left pocket, & there's a spare battery in my console. Covering the "small" details allow us to concentrate on the big ones. ;)
