The two 560's I received (Amazon - New Harbor) both are the new versions, QC sticker and metal feet. The test/pilot button on both of mine never worked (unless it's operation is more complex then pressing the red/green circle light under the word "Pilot"?), but they fire fine other than that. I've been using them just about daily in S1 mode as optical slaves until my triggers arrive.

Extremely happy with the quality and power of the flashes.

EDIT - Pilot lights do work.. I read back a few pages in this thread and it seems one must apply herculean force to the button. I couldn't do it with my fingers, but after pressing a pen cap down on it, it fired. That's a little ridiculous, but for the price, I'll take what I can get.

sad to hear the flash dying stories. they really need to up their quality.

What makes you think that just because a few people post about dead ones the quality is at fault?

Electronics die, no matter who makes them. If I hard to buy from a hard drive mfg that I never had a drive die from, I would not be able to buy a hard drive.

the fact is that you do hear many more complaints about YN's quality than Canon or most other brands of flashes. and believe me i have extra hope for YN to do well since i am chinese myself:)

I've had YN-468 for half a year, no problems since I figured out the batteries were a bit loose and fixed it. Currently have a 560 on the way for some more OCF work, I'm totally hooked on it :D

Since I never seem to have good luck with stuff like this, I'm gonna stick with companies that have long established reputations like Vivatar or Sunpak, even if it means paying a little more.

What the best reliable source for the YN-560. There are several Ebay sellers. Is there one better than the others?

PS: it was suggested that these guys were MFG direct, http://stores.ebay.com/hkyongnuophotoequipment (external link). But they dont list the 560. What does that mean??

Are there any other reasons to consider a Vivitar over the Yongnuo? Price is about the same from what I've seen.

I have a pair of Vivitar 285HV's and one YN-560. I really like both types of flashes but for some situations I like the 560 better. First the 560 recycles faster and the power adjustment covers a wider range. From full to 1/128 power. The 285 is full, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/16. What happened to 1/8th? The 580 tilts, swivels and zooms. The 285 only tilts and has a 3 position zoom. The 560 has a built-in, self storing wide panel. The 285 is a separate piece that I can never seem to find when I need it. The 560 has a pull out catch light panel.
Like I said I am happy with both flashes. You can decide if any of these differences will be of benefit to you.

Looks like it is the official ebay store.

I placed an order in Amazon (BestDealUSA) and it has shipped already and is expected to arrive 1/18.

I read about the Saga with New harbor and decided not to go with them

I just got my 560 yesterday, very impressed. The new revision is great, especially the metal foot. The power adjustment I kinda like better than on my 430EXII... Its faster, just press left or right arrows for more or less power. The buttons are easier to press and you dont have to hit the ok button before adjusting power

Thanks, I found it on Amazon as well. I think I'll go that route as well.
