Is anyone using a Flipside and a sling such as the Black Rapid or Luma Loop at the same time? I had the idea to try my Canon backpack (which has a waist strap) and my OpTech strap, which I have lengthened to use as a sling. I put the camera "sling" on first, over my left shoulder, with the camera at my right hip. I then put on the backpack and buckled the waist strap. I had no problem spinning the backpack around for access to the rear. Had my camera strap been a sling where the camera slides along the strap, I would have had no problem getting the camera to eye level. It seemed like it would work well, unless I'm missing something.

I'm currently not using a sling with the flipside but i do want to try one some day. I did try and replicate your setup, but i did not see any feasibility of having the r-strap and the flipside on at the same time. the camera would be trapped under the backpack's right shoulder strap unless you had the camera above the right shoulder strap before you put on the backpack.

I usually use my camera strap (generic neoprene) on top of my flipside bag. when i rotate the bag into flip mode, the camera is still on my neck but is not caught in any straps on the bag. It merely dangles on the side as I get access to my flipside 300.

Here's a cell phone picture of my test setup:

The camera strap's shoulder pad is under the backpack's shoulder pad. Since my camera strap is actually a long shoulder strap, moving the camera up to eye level requires the pad to slide off my shoulder, onto my back, which isn't possible the way you see it. But I'm thinking that if the camera could just slide up along its strap like the slings do, it would work.

Are your flipside's straps shaped or positioned differently than my Canon backpack's, causing more interference with the sling?

Hey mike_d: I thought I'd chime in here. I don't have an R-Strap but have been considering getting one. I do, however, have the Flipside 300 and in answer to your question, when I'm wearing my bag, the straps are positioned almost exactly like your Canon backpack's straps in the above pic. I have to imagine that the R-Strap will work perfectly with this setup.

I'll be subscribing to this thread to see if any R-Strap + Flipside owners offer their two cents.

Shouldn't be a problem, people complain about the movement in the sling strap shoulder pad when you bring the camera up to the eye, the overlap onto to the shoulder pad will help secure it in place. The camera can still travel up the sling strap, without the sling strap moving, as it's designed to do.

If the back pack strap is on top, it should'nt effect it's range of movement. I'd get a sling strap with a narrow should pad so there is less interference.

I wear my Luma Loop underneath my Flipside 300 and it works great.

i suppose the only problem that i was encountering is that i like using the top shoulder strap (the flipside comes with a shoulder and waist belt) to help evenly distribute the load. i'd have to unclip the r-strap (i'm not sure there is a clip, and feed it over the upper strap so that i could use it.

I'm not looking for straps at the moment. looks like it would work otherwise.

My strap doesn't move... If yours does, consider making the sling a little longer...
