Just trying to get an idea on the price. My 30D is surely near the end of its life with the shutter, and the focusing servo gave me hell this past weekend......so I assume its on its way out as well.

Anyone?

The focus motor is in the lens not in the body, so I don't think the servo can just go out on the body. Of course, it may need to be calibrated, but that would affect one shot focus as well.

Shutter replacement costs around $250 or so. You'll know when your shutter is about to die, because you'll start seeing light or dark bands in your images.

Can you give us some more details on this? What lens was it? What exactly was happening? Do you mean "AI Servo" ? Or just the focusing motor (which is actually in the lens)

My 50D, just out of warranty, shipped to Canon last Thursday at 9200 actuations, with a terrible shutter lag/failure to fire.
Have not yet heard back with an estimate.

Not a happy camper that this should go on such a lightly used body  !

$237 to replace my shutter on my 40D. They also cleaned the sensor. Got it back in about 2 weeks.

How many shots has it done.
The 30D is rated for around 100k actuations.

I disagree - I've done 3 shutters over the years. Two in a 10D (the first one let go at around 160k, the second at around 120k and then the camera went to Canon heaven at around 60k on the third. The shutter was still in good nick but the body just cried enough) and most recently (February of 2010) one in my 1D MkII at 187,737.
All of them went without warning.
One shot all was good - the next, KaPut!!.

It's a fact of life - shutters wear out.

Curious what that costs?

From memory, A$620

The shutter itself was A$280.00 and A$340.00 for labour which included a full service which is understandable because the camera needs to be completely dis-assembled/re-assembled.
It's not a 5 minute job - took around 5.5 hours from start to finish.

Yeah, I phrased that wrong. Should have been: if you see light or dark bands, you can bet that your shutter is on it's way out. OP seems to indicate that his shutter is at the end of it's life, but how would he know that? Just a guess based on # of actuations? It could go for another 100k as far as anyone knows.

Not in Australia - we've only got a population of 22 mill, so supply and demand isn't quite the same as the States.

£230 for my shutter replacement and full service and clean about a month ago on the 1Ds2. I was told the shutter cost £65 and the rest was for labour and the clean.....

No clue......I certainly haven't been keeping up with it. Wish I could see the actuations myself. :(

Just got my repair estimate from Canon:

$205.00 (for whatever they are doing to solve the terrible shutter lag and occasional failure to fire). Plus, I'll owe the store $28.00 for their bench check and mailing to Irving.

Not real happy that this has happened to a 19 month old camera with less than 9000 actuations!

So much for the "unofficial" standard of 100K!!
