My first!

Well I think I posted a picture of a humming bird like 5 years ago with my old PS Fuji. But since getting my hands on decent gear I have yet to shoot birds. Recently a friend via POTN lent me his 100-400. That lens ROCKS! I'm quite surprised how sharp, and accurate it is. I was also pretty amazing about how well the IS stood up. I thought it's IS was "outdated". Anyways, here are a few snaps of a gorgeous bird at Mizumoto Koen here in Tokyo.

Welcome. Do you know the ID of the birds?

Nope, that is another week point of mine. I very new to anything bird related. One of the parks I was at did have King Fishers, but I was able to get a good shot of them.

I love the shots Andy. You did a superb job with all three of them. The first looks a lot like our Great Blue Heron but it's not. Some of the markings are different and so are the colors. The last one is definitely a Sparrow but which one? Interesting stuff in the far east. Glad you found your way here.

Well I will make a run to the park where I shot the wannabe Heron. I will find the proper translation as well

I seriously considering buying a longer lens...But that will be another topic lol! the 100-400 was just so much fun. I had the 70-200 but that would not work for this application for sure.
