Out in the fields earlier taking the dog for a walk when I saw a Little Owl flying in & out the trees.
Typically I didn't have camera with me so hastily cut short the dogs fun & dashed home to grab the kit.
I really thought this bird would have gone by the time I'd got back, but to my surprise was in plain view on an oak branch (where it has been seen by others recently).
A quick couple of shots before it flew off up another tree, and managed to grab one more shot before it flew off again.

I love little owls so much, they're sooooooooooooooo full of mischief! Nice job on the shots, i've only seen wild little owls from far away.

Thanks Restless' - Really lucky it was still in the area when I got back there - so pleased just to have seen it, yet alone get a shot.

Nice shots. Looks very much like our Burrowing Owl.

Thanks Lester - It was taken with the 100 - 400, not the big thing and it was only around 20ft away (if that) and about 15ft up in the first shot.
It then flew off to another tree, deep in the foliage I had a job to spot it,and that one was around 20ft up maybe.
Crop shots yes, both at 400mm & ISO 400.
The first was at 1/250th @5.6 so I had to lighten it with DPP, and the 2nd was 1/125th @ f 11, using fill in flash as it was so dark up there against the bright background sky. (Both in Tv mode, as I hadn't even checked my settings from the other day - doh!!).
Bit of panic mode shooting as I really wasn't expecting it to be there - pleased tho', as they don't look too bad on A4.

Thanks Anke for your kind words.
I didn't see it yesterday, but it was out again this evening (6ish again) but couldn't get too close to get anything decent.
Some crops of this evenings shots I thought I'd share then.

Just an update on this bird - I found it has a mate, and also now located the nesting site.
A couple of crap shots from this evening, whilst trying to reach through branches & stinging nettles to take them.
Not sure what this bird has in its mouth but it doesn't look very appetising to me.
