I did a quick search but didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

I have owned 2 Canon camera's and plenty of lenses bought from the US. And have yet to have an issues (Knock on wood). But I friend of mine recently had an issues with his Nikon camera, and due to the fact that he purchased in from the US, Nikon Canada, Wouldn't even look at it.

I was under the impression that Canon didn't care where it came from, as they do come with "international" warranties. But as I come closer to ordering a 5D MKII, I have to question this. Not that I think anything will happen, would just like to get all my bases covered, incase it has the banding or one of the many other issues I have heard of.

Thanks for any help or incite in advance,

Johnsoir

I had a similar decision here in the UK when contemplating buying a new body from the US.

However, I discovered that if you purchase a "Mack" extended warranty, it shouldn't be a problem. They will authorise a repair at a "local" Canon repair centre for you.

I don't know how you purchase one in your part of the world - but I guess Google is your friend.

I had a mack warranty for the 400D.

Sadly there is only one authorized repair shop, east of the actual Canon repair facility. And they are a; closing soon, and b; can't fix most things and send it to the Canon facility.

I had a 70-200mm f4 that had focus issues, but they couldn't do anything and told me "due to the fact that we have older machinery, we can't fix anything with floating elements."

As far as I know if it's a part replacement issue they are great, other than that they are little to no help.

It's my understanding that only lenses have international warranties - and even then if you've bought a "grey" (i.e. non-Canon distributor sourced) item, you may have trouble getting service from anywhere other than through the place the lens was bought.

Bodies are ony warranted in the country of purchase unless you can buy some sort of extended warranty (Mack?)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

The gear usually comes with Canada/US warranties or International. If you have a Canada/US warranty, then you can get it serviced in Canada with no problems. I have done this in the past with gear I have purchased from B&H in the states, but have gotten repaired covered under warranty in Canada.

If it's an International warranty, I'm not so sure because I've never bought a canon grey market item.
