How come a lot of 135L owners are selling this lens?

I can only speak for myself, but the 135L is the last of my Canon lenses I'd give up. I think it is really unique among Canon lenses - one of the few that has a specific signature style. That goes for FF anyway. On crop cameras, well, not so much. It's OK on my 7D but far better om my 5DII. It is on FF that it hits the sweet spot of focal length and DOF.

Yes. 85mm is a favorite of mine on crop, don't like it on FF. Don't like 50mm on crop, like it on FF. Not crazy about 135mm on crop, love it on FF.

Never tried it on crop, but the 135 on FF is ecstacy, all I can say right now haha.

glad to hear! have you tried an 85 on a crop? that's what i was getting after.. to see just how similar 85x1.6 and 135 FF are in perspective or what have you.

The 85 x1.6 factor is intriguing. Before I bought my 5D, I was thinking of just buying an 85L plus a 7D versus a 5D2 and a 135 L, but after renting the 135L and slapping it to a full frame, it opened up a whole new world for me .

I just got mine the other week and I fell in LOVE with this lens. I don't see myself selling it anytime soon... It's perfect.

I bought one recently but I am liking the flexibility of my 70-200mm f2.8 IS. Comparing 85mm f1.8 on my 1dmk2 with my 135mm f2 on 5d looks quite similar and 1d is much faster on focussing so I might sell the 135mm and keep with 70-200mm f2.8 IS. And I can use 85mm f1.8 indoors for full length shots, 135mm is too long.

I really liked the 85 when I had a crop. Used it a lot for portraits, mostly in portrait orientation. When I moved to a FF I expected to buy the 135 the next day. It turned out I also liked the 85 on a FF but I found I used it almost always in landscape orientation. It was 6 months before I bought the 135... now I use both, almost always in landscape mode. I think the move to the FF, and using the 85 for awhile, did change my style (if I even have one) to make the environment an important part of the image.

I'm hugely debating b/t the 135L and the 70-200 F4L for my semi-telephoto and street candid lens. I haven't seen any used 135Ls on the market recently... this thread suggests that I should look harder lol.

I, too hear nothing but rave reviews on the 135L. I don't know if the extra 2 stops, IQ, and bokeh is worth the $400 or so premium over the more flexible, but "slower" F4. But then again, the 135L is more subtle. Can anyone with experience chime in on my dilemma?

My thoughts are nothing more than a summary of what others have already mentioned:

- Lots of impulse buys
- Primes are not for everyone
- 135mm is great on full frame, but a little odd on crop bodies
- People simply move on to other lenses

I have both, although the IS version of the 70-200. These two lenses are not interchangeable.

They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I "need" both.

Are the 2 stops, bokeh worth it. I left IQ out of it, because the zoom doesn't take a back seat to most lenses, imo.

I would not have been able to take this shot strictly because of the low light. shot at ISO3200 a couple of days ago. The 2 stops made it possible, imo.

Love the shot. Reason why I love the 135L, something distinct about it.

I sold the 200L f2.8 and bought the 135L f2. It was exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. I haven't used it on a crop yet. I have only owned it for a couple weeks. It takes a little getting used to, but the images it can do are fantastic. Count me as one who will not ever sell it. Portraits alone are enough reason to own it. The lens offers as many possibilities as your imagination.
Getting the bokeh is very easy. Controlling and knowing the DOF it does is bit of a challenge. But the results are pleasant. Indoor sports are a niche of the 135L too. The 35L and 200L f2 will find a place in my bag also.
Zooms are nice for walking around and unexpected shots.
Why would someone sell it? #1 Need the money. #2 to upgrade a body or specialty lens.
I have sold lens in the past I hated to part with but the coverage, f stops and focal lengths play a part in the decision. Each person can only decide the true must have lens.

Probably people like me who don't use that FL often. Even though I don't shoot frequently with it what I've seen out of that lens is so good I won't be parting with it. It's a fantastic lens.
