Paddled the kayak out to a spoil island the other day near Clearwater, FL and saw a great deal of good bird action. Was able to get closer to a few then I ever really thought was possible. All shots are taken with the 70-200 f/4

Great Blue Heron that we cruised to within 6 feet of before he finally took off:

An Osprey enjoying a trout:

An, uh, white bird:rolleyes: (Great Egret thanks to sparker and woody) flying along:

and a bonus butterfly shot:

I have great series for each of those shots, so if there are more that you'd like to see then let me know. Also, C&C is always welcome (and yes, I know, I'm awful at knowing what some of the birds are, but I'm trying to learn.)

Enjoy.
-Mike

Welcome to the Bird forum, Mike. Good shots to start with. The white bird is a great egret. I like the osprey shot best.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It has been fun to lurk around and learn how to approach/shoot birds from some of you. Since the Osprey seems to be the best received shot so far (I am partial to the Heron myself) here is another for you to take a look at. Different perspective for sure!
