Some shots from the "Oregon Sniper Challenge" this weekend. It was held at the Douglas Ridge Rifle Club. The shooting went from 15 yards out to 1000 yards and included shooting from this helo at a hover.

Shooting this helo prooved quite challenging. Getting the exsposure right was a B*t*h.

3. That's my remote camera. The other guy was shooting video with a 5D Mark II. It turned out great.

4. Shot from the remote camera. I have some learning to do when it comes to setting up the remote camera. I need a new tri-pod too.

I'd bet money that you weren't on Manual?
Cloudy day, & the light "up there" was the same as the light down where you were standing, so the only variable was the amount of sky in the image, & this is what happens on any "auto mode" (including Tv & Av).

I was shooting in TV mode mostly so that I could get the rotor blur. It wouldn't have been so difficult if the helo would have stayed low with tree background, but when going from trees to sky, I had to dial the exposure comp up and down constantly.

I'll check out that link you posted above. Thanks.

Edit: Just checked out the link above. I'm gonna shoot manual for a while and see how that works for me. Thanks again.

Cool shots! There is no mag in the rifle, I'm guessing it wasn't loaded for these shots? Did they actualy shoot out of the helo?

I have once, and wish someone could have gotten it on film or something. It was cool, and probably something i'll never get to do again. lol

Yeah, they got to shoot from the helo. What would happen is as follows: The Helo would lift off, they would take the weapon from the RO on board and pose for a shot of them holding the rifle, then they would head downrange, shoot, and turn and come back and then do it all over again. I think there were 48 shooters total. I was offered a ride on the helo, but I didn't go because I have a lot of time in Helos from my .Mil days, so I let someone else go who had never been on one. It was a good day.

Here's some video shot with a 5D Mk II and a 24-105 and my 100-400.

1000 yards is a long way... This was shot from the 800 yard line...
