This is a picture of an old friend of mine (Whom I hadn't seen for many years) which I quite like. I know the background is distracting and I can deal with that. I don't have studio facilities nor lighting other than an on camera flash, no backdrops yest I still like the shot

It was taken indoors with natural light coming in from the left of the subject. ISO 1600

Any opinions out there?

By the way, I also know about the white mark on his left cheek - he would not let me remove that from the photo.

Thanks

You said the white mark on his cheek is really there and not an aberration. Has your friend has the spot biopsied? A friend of mine had a spot like that and it turned out to be basal cell skin cancer.

To be honest, the answer is I don't know. He lives right round the other side of the globe to me

Nice image but I would try the healing brush or clone out the white spot. I know I should be focusing my comments on photography but wanted to weigh in on skin cancer as my civic duty. My wife has had many basal cell spots removed over the years (20+) so I'm tuned in to watching for these things. You should ask your friend if he's had it checked out. It is possible it was treated with a carbon dioxide freeze. That will typically leave white spot scar. Either way it can't hurt to ask. Thanks for sharing your image.

Thanks for your comments!

I would find it extremely awkward to bring it up to be honest - I have seen him only once in many many years. He is a very intelligent, well read, well traveled individual who since he was a young man has always avoided the sun. I know he is aware of the dangers of skin cancer living in Australia, and I'd be very surprised if he chose just to ignore the spot.

Having said all that, I will have to give some thought to bringing up the subject when I am next in touch with him which should be sometime in the next week or so.

Mike
