What are they? Thanks, and I don't know. This was in someone's front yard. The plant was about waist height, with much branching, and had many blooms. The stems looked fleshy enough that it might be classified as a succulent. In botanical gardens, plants that look like this have labels identifying them as native to South Africa. The climate here is Mediterranean, which is compatible with S. Afr. natives. A little searching got me to the genus Protea as a possibility. We have that sort of flowers here in Oz. The second one could be a Scarlet Ribbon.
