Sharp, and vividly colorful images Joe. Very nicely done.

Often mistaken, but never in doubt.

Gorgeous colours.
Love the bottom one. Has some extras woven into it.
Such vibrance.

I thought I might have a couple of shots to contribute here, but the latest tranche of posts have shown me that I can't begin to aspire to the quality on display here. Wonderful stuff, folks, just wonderful.

Canon 7D2 · 16-35 f/4L IS · 17-55 f/2.8 IS · 18-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS STM · 50 f/1.8 · 100 f/2.8 Macro · 100-400L IS II
Picture editing is OK. CC always welcome.

How big are these, Avondale? We have trigger plants in the Top End too but they're tiny. POTNers may be interested too in why they're called trigger plants.

Thanks Graham
I'd edited my original post.

Edit: these are intriguing plants and as requested add more detail. Not all my words.
Trigger plant is characterised by an asymmetrical fused corolla and the presence of two stamens fused to the style to form a column.
This column, upon irritation, moves across to trap (brand them with pollen) insects as part of a pollination strategy.

Basically when an insect alights to collect the nectar the little 'prong' in the centre flies out, hits the insect and puts pollen on the insect who takes it onto the next Trigger Plant.
My daughter used to (still does) love teasing the poor things with a small frond.

Size wise these plants are about 35 to 45cm, 14 to18" tall, occasionally less or more.
The flower shown would be about 8 to 11 mm, ⅜" to ½" across.

They vary in intensity of colour from lightish to deep pinky purple tinges.

Agree. Looking at your bird shots I'm confident your results would shine.
I could post my bird shots and you'd definitely see the true meaning of your comment :p

Thanks Richard, I think their method of pollination is fascinating and of course you can trigger them with a stick or leaf and, if you're quick, see the stamen fly over. Kids love it. Our trigger flowers are a bit smaller than yours it seems, maybe 5-8 mm across.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

This is what our Waratah tree (shrub) looks like in full bloom.
And they often grow in thickets or heavily interspersed with larger trees and other understorey vegetation.
They are stunning when massed and even on their own stand out for all to see.
They are also nectar rich so no doubt attract birds.

And this is another Correa. There are several of same species but just differ in appearance.

I was playing with my EM-5 and an old Pentax 55/1.8 with a Fotodiox adapter (PK-m4/3)
Had it for a while but never took it serious. Until now

from our stay on Oahu
aloha - our daughter met us at the airport with a lei that started my love affair with the flowers, amongst other things.
