Pretty flowers, Jack. I've not seen them before...nice shot.

They are very pretty, agree.
I think they're Foxglove.
If so, they're an invasive species, here unfortunately.
If you see them popping up in your waterways, streams etc I'd suggest removal.
There sap is not good for some skins, so be careful.
They take over other native plants, displacing birds too.

They are a real problem here, just as our natives taken elsewhere invade local habitats and cause displacement there.
Jack I'm always cautious mentioning these things on forums where the focus is on the beauty of the flower.
Not what these flower posts are about.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, Avondale. That's an interesting perspective. I'm far from an expert on flowers, but I gather that foxgloves are actually a whole group of flowers. They are native over here and don't seem especially rampant, so are not regarded as a problem. I'm unsure now about my photo. I first labelled these as foxgloves because that's what I though they were, but She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed was adamant that they weren't foxgloves and a Facebook friend of mine called them penstemons, so I can only bow to those who know better and I edited my post accordingly!

Thinking about it, I know we do have some real foxgloves in the garden here. They flower somewhat earlier in the year and have somewhat more "tighter" petals. As a kid I used to put foxglove flowers over my fingers (hence "gloves") and they would not break. The petals in my photo don't look nearly so robust.

Thanks Richard...I've never seen them around here before. But now that I'm aware their down side, I'll keep my eyes open for them.

Mike and Jack. Don't believe everything you read on the Web. Especially from a non flower expert :p whose name starts with R.
I could be wrong.
I've heard of penstemon too. Heard being the operative word.
I'm happy for marital issues to remain unruffled so best let that be overarching importance here

Shot this last week using recently expired Velvia 50 film in a Canon 35mm SLR body. Love the rich colors.

Right! I popped the question to my SWMBO and...
Penestemon. Oh dear. I recant.

Not sure what they do.

I got more excited about the daisy shot, than I care to admit. My fiance left her flowers outside overnight and there was a light rain. I went to grab them for her and was like, "OH!"
