Ornamental Thistle. Please note: NOT a weed.

I have been working on this thistle for about 4 years now - it has had its ups and downs and been planted in various spots in the garden, but it has now decided to grow.
It is currently 9 feet tall. Apologies to any Scots out there who can boast a bigger one than mine.
I am just waiting for it to bloom a bit more.:-)

Impressive. I've never seen a big thistle, but I've read that in Argentina they use them for firewood.

Thank you, John. We'll have to start a thistle appreciation society.:-) Richard will probably tell me it's a weed down under in Oz or Tassie.

I did think it could be, Richard, but the Artichokes I've seen have bigger heads and don't grow so tall.

Two previous years shots when it was just beginning to grow.
