I have the Zuikos (sp?) one; got it at B&H for something like $89(?). It has been just fine so far.

So no shutter hang? Buttons functions as normal with this one? I saw an Opteka brand at EBAY for $68.95 plus 2 Batteries, dont know if this is a good brand.

I want a grip for my 5DMkII as well, so, I am very interested in this thread too.
I like the Canon model grip on my 40D.
However, I read from many, from different sources, that the Canon model 5DMkII grip sux!
The freakin' thumbwheel BREAKS, making for a stuck grip to the body.
Hmm, not that I have yet to remove the grip from my 40D though.
But a broken grip would suck!

5DMkII, 40D w/ grip, lenses, flashes, more stuff.

Shutter hang? No, definitely not. Everything functions exactly as I'd expect it to.

I've never heard of Opteka, but my general rule of thumb is this: If the only place you can buy a particular (new) item is on eBay, avoid it.

I tried this one because I noticed that it had the rubber grip on the battery cover as well:

The grip has worked well so far, and as an added bonus, will also partially communicate with my third party battery (external link)! I say partially because the battery level meter will show, but not the remaining number of shots. Here's some photos for reference.

I have one too - its great and shows both batteries, however for my 7d I will get the original as i shoot sport and dont want any mishap with the trigger. the zuiko feel quite different to the original but hey its a third of the price.

trant6, how long have you been using this grip? Speedy shipping? How is the feel of the shutter release, compared to the camera's own button?

I'm interested because of the "partial" reporting of 3rd party batteries, which would not restrict me from buying $70+ OEM batteries (more expensive than this grip itself!)

I've had the grip for about a month only. It seems like this is a new grip from a different manufacturer, as all the previous 3rd party grips I've seen lack the rubber grip on the battery cover. The feel of the buttons on the grip are noticably different from the camera's, but definitely usable. The 5d2 buttons have a "mushier" feel to them.

The grip ships from China, took a little over 2 weeks if I recall correctly.

Had a Phottix on a 40D, Canon on a 5D, bought a Phottix for my 5DII. 7k clicks later, still works flawlessly and is on tight.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.
