Hey guys,

Just wondering if it is a good idea to pick up a 7D now or should I wait for the successor? I just don't want to spend 1700 bucks and then 2 months later, the successor of 7D show up in stores. Any suggestions/help/comments appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Low

there is always the next new camera coming along. If the 7D fits the bill now then buy it now

If there's some feature you absolutely must have that the 7d doesn't offer then wait, otherwise go ahead.

Just my opinion but I don't see a 7d mark II coming out for a while...

The 7D has only been on the market for about 6 months...

The 7D was announced in September 2009, released in October 2009. I don't think we'll see a successor of it anytime soon.

Aside from that what is wrong with the 7D that you'd want to wait for its successor?

Allegedly the next successor due out is one to the 50D, rumored to be the 60D.

If you are one prone to wait for a successor, you may end up buying the next model to find out it has problems its predecessor did not have.

I guess you have to do what is best for you!

I don't see a successor to the 7D anytime soon since the camera JUST came out less than a year ago. That being said you can continue to follow that logic until the end of time or just buy what you need right now.

First of all, 7D will not cost u 1700. Instead, buy from a reputable dealer and use the Bing cashback. You're looking at: $1469 - 8% BING - $30 eBay = ..... ;)

Some folks may like to patronize their local b&m store to 1) keep money flowing through the local economy and 2) have peace of mind of being able to return should there be any issues.

I don't always prescribe to that myself, especially with electronics, but with appliances and riding mowers, etc, I do. :)

I'd say wait for the 7D2, better yet, might as well wait for Mark 3 since we all know it's going to be far superior than the 7D we have now.

Personally, I'd wait for the 6D myself. (No, not the 5D3, or 60D. But the 6D.) After all, if the 7D is 1.6x, and 5D is FF, therefore the 6D must use a 1.3x sensor.

Buy now. You will be happy with it. I just got mine about a week ago, and just love it.

Do it, its a hell of a camera. Waiting just sets you up to wait for the next one, and the next one...

Yes. I used it when I got my 500L (about a $200 savings) and will use it when I get the 300 2.8. You have to wait 60 days to cash in though because they want to ensure you kept the item before they give you the money. Just make sure you sign up with Bing Cashback.

Waiting for a successor doesn't make any sense, as it could very well be more than two years before a successor is released.

Waiting to buy a 7D for budgetary reasons does make sense. As time goes by there will be more used ones available, which should make it possible to buy one for under $1200 sometime soon. And of course, the longer they're out there the more the price of a new one will fall. If you don't need to have it NOW, then waiting another 6 or 8 months may very well save you a few hundred bucks.

Personally, I'm waiting. I was ready to buy a 7D, but when I realized I could buy a 50D for $700, I couldn't really justify the additional $1000 that the 7D would have cost me.

"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".
