a 24 x 24mm sensos is smaller than a 36x24 sensor though...except it is not fullframe. and the hood? canon surely could make bigger/wider hoods hehehe

Look at the rear baffles of a number of lenses too - they're also rectangular. The lenses aren't always corrected symmetrically, especially if they don't have rotating elements.

And look at you guys - you've actually managed to post some pictures with genuine artistic merit (did I just say that?), and have a real photographically-related discussion that's based on truth, not myths. Guess I'm not going to be able to shut the thread down just yet.

ohh yeah Jon... now the lenses is the expensive part huh? most lenses have rectangular baffles indeed... haven't thought about that.

Thanks Jon,please don't close this thread, we have a healthy discussion of Nikon/Canon issues here

Not any individual lens - but you might have to replace most or all of your collection with a new, redesigned, set of lenses to cope with the square sensor as has been dreamed of. Now, sticking with APS-C sensors and FF lenses would work just fine, since the long dimension of an APS-C is shorter than the short dimension of a FF sensor (or lens).

When you guys start talking Canon vs. Nikon, it's far from healthy. The Surgeon General's been after us to do something about you . . .

This WILL be closed before that is allowed to happen. Maybe on Phonetics on the Net you can try it.

That would do it I guess, if ever they decide to indeed release a camera with a square sensor. :) APS-C Square sensor. :D

so far, the number of Nikon threads have been suppressed now, we only have 2 active threads here, this one and the Nikon thread. as you can see we have been behaved. :)
