I think I'm done shooting this place. I think I've worn out all the foreground subjects. ;)

Good morning Steven. I just did a repeat composition today with my Lee Big Stopper 10 stop ND. Today's light was real nice and I wanted to see if my 16-35 II would vignette with that filter. Judging from my LCD, it looks like it didn't. The only way to know is when I view it at home :)

16mm with a 100x100 filter 10 stop ND? wow!!! I envy you Julian

can't really get good results with my 4 stop 100x100 ND handheld with the Sigma 12-24mm... light enters the gap between the built in lens hood and the filter, and I get a lot of unwanted reflections.

You should sell that 12-24 and get a 16-35 f/4 VR. The problem with handholding an ND like that is light leak. The Lee 10 stop ND has foam around the filter which helps prevent that.

hahaha I am actually thinking about doing that, but I love to use the 12mm on the Sigma  and I don't have the additional $400 yet to buy that lens :(

look at this: I did not even continue shooting with it...

Looks good but, depending on the position of the sun,you will definitely get light leak. If the sun is behind/left/ right of you, you can't use the filter at all.

nope Julian check out the right side of the photo, it has a reflection on it... and i can't even see the sun that time... the white sand is reflecting light onto the filter.

if I don't get filters to work with the Sigma, I will definitely spring up for the 16-35mm f/4...

then will check the 24-120mm f/4 and then wait for the 70-200mm f/4 hehehe :) or if I could afford it then will go for the 24-70+70-200mm f/2.8 :)

Doesn't that have a rear gel filter holder? Get a Kodak 3.9 ND gel filter and cut it to fit.

Gel filters? are they good? how dark is 3.9? I have a 1.2 and its already 4 stop.. so 3.9 is?

I only want ND filter and infrared if possible. so gel is welcome if I could use them with the Sigma. I don't understand though how I could fit a gel filter on the back of the lens.

Sorry 3.0 - 10 stops. Every 0.3 increase is 1 stop. They're good, if you keep them flat in the frame. My 15-30 has a removable gel holder back there. According to Sigma's page, so does the 12-24.

Many are much worse, and they post here (probably because the Nikonians forum wouldn't tolerate them).

Hey, if you want to shoot Nikon, go for it. Just avoid the putting down of anything else with the many false and/or relative statements that seem to be common on this thread.

It's the Nikon attitude I can't stand, not the cameras. The cameras are quite good in their respective price ranges, but I still won't buy one.

You mean Nikon/Canon DON'T make their lenses from the souls of dead orphaned chickens?!

I'm shocked!

Oh BTW, ever hear of the genetic fallacy?! :p

ok I thought so, its 10-stop  wow!!

yeah I can see the rear filter holder on the 12-24mm but I don't know how to remove it, it looks like its screwed into place. sorry I don't have the manual here with me, its on my other house.

and Jon you are saying
3 x 3 = as in 3 inch x 3 inch? can I cut them up in a way so that I could make 2 or 3 filters?

btw, is this the filter you are suggesting? its 4.0 = 13 stops?

who are you talking about? Never been to Nikonians, but most other forums are not as lively, friendly as here.

is it Nikon's attitude or Nikon users in general? much like any Apple Users also? :)

It's Nikon's attitude as a company, as evidenced in their ads (Ashton Kutcher, et al) and the way they treat inquiring potential customers (me).

Of course, this attitude does in a large part infect Nikon users, like the ones who claim they use Nikon because they are professionals, etc. And yes, the Nikonians forum is a lot less friendly than dear old POTN. Another example of the "nikitude" in action.
