I visited Dolly Sods in West Virginia earlier this month and while I was there I snapped off 9 frames handheld in hopes of stitching a decent panorama. This is what I came up with. I don't think it's a great image, but i would like to have a modest print made. Adorama offers 4x12 for a low price. Would anyone be willing to take a stab at recommending a crop at this 1:3 ratio? I would also appreciate any other recommendations for printing sizes or services. The actual file is almost 14,000 pixels wide, so this is a heavily reduced and compressed image.

Also, any C&C regarding the image itself is welcome. Thanks!

The foreground is more interesting on the right than on the left. I would say make the image as tall as you can and grab as much length as you can, starting from the right. Try and get that break in the background mountains to be a little off the edge of the left side of the frame.

Id like the whole image, just filled out and fixed up in Photoshop. Since you have "Image Editing" on, I did a really quick edit on it in CS5. I added the missing whites edges, fixed most of the patch lines, and removed a few eyesores. The only thing I didnt do (besides fix the areas I added in) was to straighten the image. I think the horizon might be dipping to the right a bit. Anyways, didnt take long on such a small image size version even tho I just did a quickie job on it. So I bet it wouldnt be too much to do on the full image and get it perfect, esp if you have enough ram to process it.

But since you need 4x12. I like a crop like this:

Thanks a lot for the responses! Did you use CS5's content aware fill to add in the empty white space? I've got CS3 and wasn't sure what the best way to fill everything in would be. I've definitely noticed that the horizon was dipping a bit down on the right side, I'll try and correct that once I successfully edit the rest of the image. I did a bit of levels/contrast/color adjustment on it, as well as a TON of cloning. Dirty 5D sensor + f/16 + 9 separate images = AHHHHH!!!

Yep, CS5. I used the content aware fill via delete to build the white areas. It isnt ever perfect but it does a great job to get you started. I adjusted it by hand using the clone stamp tool and the spot healing brush set to "proximity match or "content aware" based on what texture was needed. CS5 is amazing. The same 2 tools were used to blend out the cracks and remove a few eyesores.
