This^ the image quality of this lens always amazes me, I thought that when I got my 70-200 f4 IS I would be spoiled, but the 17-55 still stays on my 50D. 7D/BG-E7 - 580EXII - EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM - EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM - EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM - in a Domke F-2RW

Interesting comments all. The lens is on it's way to Canon and I am sure that they should be able to fix it. As long as it performs up to par then I'm good. I really do like the lens a lot and it's versatility is hard to beat on a crop body. Just a thought from Daniel

May 29, 2010 00:03 | #20 i loved my 17-55 on my t1i. If i had a crop camera, I would have that lens again. maybe they might come out with a 17-55 f/2.0 IS... it should be possible in an EF-S mount. probably won't be much bigger than a 24-70 f/2.8 if at all, i think. Body: Sony a7R IV

So unless built quality is more important then aperture / IS for you, it's kinda a "suck it up" situation.

So unless built quality is more important then aperture / IS for you, it's kinda a "suck it up" situation. Now if the Sigma's new 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM is just as good (or even better) minus the 5mm then, expect people to jump ship. I've actually considered this, but I think it's going to be hard for Sigma to beat the 17-55 optically. Not that it can't be done, but this has been a very sharp zoom lens. If it is just as good, I would probably make the switch and buy myself a B&W circular polarizer with the extra money. Just a thought from Daniel
