I got some cheap "Cowboy Studio" stands and shoot through umbrellas, and some brackets to allow me to use my 430EXIIs. My friend took me to this really 'unique' sound studio/lounge and we took some shots. I'm pleased with how they came out, and can't wait to get more practice.

1. both speedlites - pushed the highlights in PP to get a dramatic look

2. just one speedlite - I think I'm going to try to smooth out her right shoulder/pit area.

3. one speedlite way up high - did this one outdoors and am not sure if the speedlite had much of an effect, but I am happy with it.

I loved the B+W, high contrast look. I agree; very edgy. Your friend makes a great model; perfect for the edgy look. The first image seems a tad soft though. Was it an upload issue? Also, did you use the the 430's on-board IR remote or did you have radio triggers? Nice work.

I processed the heck out of that first image. She wanted something a bit artistic and different, so I gave it the works in Photoshop. During the B&W conversion (Nik Silver Efx) I pushed the highlights quite a bit. I'm lucky to have someone that lets me practice on her, as my wife won't let me get the camera anywhere near her!

Unfortunately, my T1i doesn't have on-board IR, so I used the ST-E2. I think I still have a lot to learn on how to get the most out of the ST-E2 as it seems to have some neat features, so I guess I'll have to practice some more! When I use the 430EXIIs with my pair of Genesis 200s (I've done this once), I use my Calumet radio triggers to trigger the Genesises and some Flash Zebra photocells to fire the 430EXIIs. That setup seems to work pretty well, as long as I don't block the photocells with the subject!

I love the high contrast in those. Very heavy rock look.
