Hello guys,

This is just to share this experience I have a few days ago. I was working in a commercial and they were using two cameras for video... A RED Digital Camera and a 7D. The thing is that one of the camera crew sees that I'm using a 5DMKII and he starts talking to me about the 7D been better than the 5DMKII because is the newest model..... I think that he thought that been a 7 and not a 5 it was the newest model... well after a while he started saying that the 7D is superior to the 5DMKII. He said something about having more features for video and video connectors... something like that.

Just to share this and see what you all think...

LMAO...sounds pretty ignorant to me.

I think you should go up to him and show him the price difference and see what he says

Well, the 7D did come out after the 5DII and it did have more video options. Much has been corrected in firmware update though.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Does it really matter?

The 1Ds4 will be better, then followed by the 60D -> T3i -> T4i -> 5D3 -> 70D -> 7D2 -> 1D5 -> 1Ds5

I'm just saying.

The 5D still doesn't do 60fps, nor can it output an HD signal while recording. I do believe that it does have an external mic input aswell. If I was solely doing video with it I would probably go with the 7D it does seem to have the upper hand, from most of the accounts that I have heard of.

5D MKII w/Grip, 40D w/ Grip, 400D w/ Grip, EFs 18-55mm, 17-40 F4L, 70-200 2.8 ISL, EF 75-300 III USM, EF 50mm 1.8, EF 100mm 2.8 Macro, Pentacon Six 45mm Tilt, Composer Lens Baby, 430EX, 580EXII,....and big dreams.

The 7D does have some advantages over the 5D2 and the 5D2 has some advantages over the 7D.

It is true the 7D has dual digic 4 processors and can process more than the 5D2 can. I am not sure what the 5D2 firmware has introduced, but on the other hand I don't really care that much, both work well.

How about lets just use a T2i? Does, video wise, everything the 7D does, for half the price =)

True except the 7D handles ISO and low-noise much better. Just recently upgraded from a T2i to a 7D (still have both) and can definitely say the 7D does a fantastic job...and is still better than the T2i in every single regard.

And yes, I've also used a 5DMk2 and loved it, but picked the 7D because in certain aspects it *IS* a better camera.

This is common with every profession, industry, or hobby. There's always someone that thinks they know a lot, but in reality they are just insecure attention whores.

Yes, the 5D Mark two is worse than the Seven D.

Now, convince Canon of that so they start selling it for cheaper than the 5D. Man, that would be sweet!

Thank you. bw!

Personally, I have found that there is no overall best camera. Every camera can be good for someone and something. A 40D is the best thing for a soccer mom, a 1Ds or 5D can be the best thing for a wedding photographer, a Rebel is great for a student/minor hobbyist. I have found the same thing with lenses.

I just wish that everyone could share this rationale. It'd save us from seeing this vs that gear thread everyday. Which eventually turns into a pissing match about why my camera is better than yours or because it's more expensive it has to be better. It's all up to the photog to determine what's best for them!
