I've been looking at cross-eyed images for about eight years (some here even longer) and never had any problems.

Some say you are exercising a muscle that never usually gets exercised and I believe it. When I started I could only look at a few and then had to take a break. Now I can cross my eyes and let the Flickr slideshow play.

It takes awhile, I have been trying a new technique (can't remember where I read it) on people with two index cards, business cards or other pieces of paper with straight edges.

You hold one index card in each hand about an inch in front of your face. Have the images on the screen and close your left eye. Bring your right card so that the edge is in the middle of the two image and you only see the left image with your right eye.

Do the same for the left eye. Close your right eye and bring your left hand in so the card covers the left image. Now open both eyes. You're making an opening so your right eye sees the left image and the left eye sees the right image. Now concentrate on bringing the images together. This is where your eyes cross. It sometimes helps to move the cards away from your face (adjusting the distance to keep the same setup we had) and focusing on the cards. With each eye seeing one image, the addition of focusing on your cards can help as well.

Some people who can't do the finger/crosseye technique can see the images this way.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to read and do that at the same time?

The cross eyed technique (as all these examples should be) is certainly the easiest way to view stereos you just have to train your brain to perform what is actually a situation that would never occur naturally...
Worth the effort in my opinion!

I find holding your index finger between the two images and slowly draw your finger from the screen toward the tip of your nose.
Keep concentrating on your finger but try to 'notice' the images behind you should notice a 'third' image pushing the two individual images apart - if you can't see this then you are not looking at your finger anymore.
Now, when your finger is about half way between monitor and eyes (definitely no more than half way) there will be a blurred third 3d image behind your finger. You now just have to shift your focus without shifting where your eyes are actually staring, and this is really the bit where you are likely to sort of see the 3d but then lose it as your concentration shifts from finger to image.
The only thing that can help now is practice!

Technically they are not perfect (look at boats mast for an obvious point!) but my other-half and 3 year old where itching to do anything other than take piccies - I will be returning next year with a tripod!

Thanks Joey, yes the watermark was a bit of fun really, but I really shouldn't have let it dominate the images as it does...
