[my] Grandmother finally got her... "book," which consisted of a rebel xTi, EF 100-300mm USM, 1gig CF card, and a book on composition(for those of us now joining)

[then my grandmother] emailed me and said that it was urgent that we speak [as she felt that a gift of this nature was inappropriate.]

I told her that [the camera, lens and book] is a gift. [I then further expounded by adding that I have no intention of accepting any monetary reimbursement], [however, my grandmother] is INSISTENT on giving her a number so she can send me a check.

[Then contrived a number] and told her everything only cost 100 dollars. [Then], I was told not to lie to a grandmother!

I say this: the world is full of love.

stop the hate.

He sent her some camera equipment as a gift. She made him take $100 for it.

If you had read the previous posts regarding his purchase of the gear for his grandmother it made perfect sense.

The title with the words update and part 2 implies something came before.

I'd to read it twice to understand what OP is saying. And I did it just because I took it as challenge :p If I have to read 10 or 20 posts like this in a day...

I know more about gear than I know about photography :p

The original thread is here.

It would have been clearer if you had posted in that one. I was also lost when I read the OP.

I don't think the geographical location has anything to do with the poor grammar and prose of the original posting.
