My advice is to go over to Fred Miranda and check out the Alt Board. Reviewing the photos produced by certain lenses may help you to decide the direction you want to go. There is also a pretty big review section at Fred Miranda and MFLenses has a gallery of photos from MF and Alt lenses.

I would start small and just buy one MF or Alt lens to see if it's right for you.
