Here are some static shots of the Wood Stork
Working on the nest
Protecting the fledgling (I didn't realize they had such iridescence)
This shot was taken last year....apparently they are not too smart either

Your last shot eerily reminds me of my close encounter with a gator about that size. It was coming out of some thickets to cross a path and I didn't see his snout until I was no more than 3 feet away. Fortunately he didn't have bead on me like the Stork in your shot. It's the big ones that concern me, much more unpredictable and determined. Thanks Steve.....I had a similar experience on Merritt Island this year while walking along the waters edge shooting a Reddish Egret, fortunately I was about twenty feet away when I saw the gator. You are lucky the one you were three feet from wasn't hungry pttenn wrote in post #10260687 Damn that looks like one big gator! Hope it didn't get the stork. Karen No he never did (at least while we were there). The stork would move away when the gator was about three feet away. The gator did follow the stork for quite a while which made for good viewing Scott
