Greetings, I am wondering if a upgrade (downgrade?) too a G11 from a Nikon D90 is a good idea, because... Then i first started photograthy i though a DSLR was what i needed, but i started too feel shy while out using it... so i was thinking a G11 would be better, i can use flash and all that on it too and Digiscope for wildlife... but am i crazy? sould i just keep the D90? Is the picture qauilty the same? ISO? is the a great camera? i dont know, it will be for landscapes and people and pets, will it be able too keep up with dogs?... cats be ok... they arnt as fast as dogs... am i getting alittle hyped?

Yep I would definitely keep your Dslr as I reckon you would regret passing it on.
I have just bought myself a G11 and what a fantastic bit of kit. I use my big Canon Dslr kit for earning dosh and field trips etc but I also take the compact (previously Ixus960IS). You can have your Dslr zoom available for those long shots and have the compact hanging around your neck for ROTM shots without the expense of another dslr body. Also if you go into public places as I suspect you do, the compact is inconspicuous thus better shots as people are unaware and less knobheads trying to charge you fees cos they think you are a Pro. What I also like about the G11 is you can sight up a shot by not looking straight at the subject but looking down at the screen. I do this when I am taking people shots on location and leave the Dslr primed on a tripod with a wireless remote connected. Because they don't feel you are sighting them they act natural.

"Try shooting badgers, creep up in the dark, they hear the shutter, the flash goes off, they run, and what's the shot... "Badgerballs" !!!!
The difference between good and bad photographers is: Good photographers don't show their bad photos.

1. sould i just keep the D90?
I'd keep it if I were you.

2. Is the picture qauilty the same? ISO?
Speaking as a G11 owner, I love this camera at low ISOs (80-200). But I think the D90 is going to be far superior in low light.

3. is the a great camera?
Yes.

4. For landscapes, the G11 is pretty good as long as you don't want to do super-wide landscapes. I think you can put a .75x converter on the G11 (haven't tried yet, but it's not cheap) and get to a 21mm equivalent, but that's about as wide as you can go without losing IQ.

5. For people, it can be okay, if the people are posing. But low light performance from your D90 is better. Badgerballs is right about using the LCD screen to take candids though. The articulated LCD is very handy for this.

6. For pets, you would have a hard time with the G11, unless you can get them to hold still. I've noticed the G11 seems to slow down at higher ISOs (noise reduction), but even in good light, you might have trouble keeping up.
