Have a great time in Egypt, and bring back some good shots. I'll be traveling there and Amman Jordan late this year, so I'm interested to see what people are saying.

I do quite a bit of hiking, and for a travel tripod I went with the Gitzo 1541T (the setup in Ben_R's review) and have loved it so far, but I do understand that's out of your budget.

Also, depending on what time you will be shooting, you may want to look at some GND filters as that midday sun will be pretty intense. You can always bracket your shots and do some blending in PP, too.

From what I have read, some of the temples will not allow any photography, and certain temples (I believe the Valley of the Kings in Jordan) you have to check your gear as they will not even let you bring it in.

hahaha... so true...

my hobby fund basically comes by converting hotel points to amazon points and buying gear with them...

It's taken me 5 years to get the gear I have and I still have areas that are lacking, primarily in support (tripod) and in filters. ;) It's a never-ending pursuit!

thank you , you too !

but the thing is , i'm going to spend summer in my Home town (alexandria) not tourism , but i'll spend time doing some non-tourism shoots ; street , portraits and some other stuff and the + is that i pretty much know everything over there , making it easier to shoot .

and by the way , i think you should pass by Alexandria , it's a beautiful cozy little town , you can make it in two days ,

check out my flickr (here you go) (external link) , i have some shots from over there (by my sony Super zoom before i entered the DSLR world ) .
