Specifically, I'm interested in getting a Canon G series.

Does anyone know if the G10 is still for sale?

Is the G11 a good alternative?

Tx

G11 is much better in low light than the G10 and I think a better all around. The G10 can produce stunning images with good light but so can the G11

I believe the prices of G11 have dropped significantly since its release..

I have a G10 which is brilliant as a take anywhere camera.. My daughter has a G11 which I believe is better..

May I refer you to Luminous Landscape? Michael there has commented on:
* G9--article trip to Japan (the reason I bought mine, and the grip described in the article)
* G10--compared output to old medium format!
* G11--recommended, but didn't see much reason to upgrade from 10 to 11.

When I had my '9 I regretted not having better high ISO performance, a wider lens; quite liked the longer lens (210 IIRC). Loved the richard f. grip--transformed the camera!

I didn't see much reason to upgrade to a '10, but that's just me.

When the '11 came out I really liked the higher ISO performance, wider lens, and particulary the articulating screen (which I think they should never have lost!)

Having internal battery problems took the wind out of my sails for the g11. In fact I bought a ZS3 which I enjoy. (Pany.)

I find myself taking the ZS3 everywhere. But that's just me.

My new G11 has a couple of hundred activations on it. That's all!

The higher ISO performance is quite noticable with the G11, the buttons on the back are bothersome, I keep bumping them an bringing up all kinds of menu stuff while trying to take a photo. I've shot it a lot and love the high ISO performance and the articulating screen but if it wasn't for those I'd sell it and get a G10 which I think has less sensitive buttons. I had a G9 and G7 and never had these problems. I've actually uttered unlady like words in public when trying to use the camera and I've been using it a lot in the 3 or so weeks that I've had it. I just haven't found a good way to hold the camera when trying to squeeze off a steady shot. But the images are very impressive. If they come out with a G12 next fall that has a better button situation, I'll sell this camera immediately and switch - and yes it is too that bad!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my LX3, you should really think about that too cause the wide angles are great!

And it's still reletively compact...

Love my G9, prints up to 20 by 30, no noise. The computer geeks ( I was one since DOS geeks look at noise like it was a sin) I dare anyone to print out any 8 by or 11 by with any G series up to 400 iso. The Only issue is computer noise.
