So I slapped on my 580exII. Set it to manual. Flash output is 1/128.
I set my camera to aV mode with 2.8 speed.
For some reason, the shutterspeed is locked to 1/8000. The camera will not adjust the shutterspeed to get the correct exposure. Why?

In manual mode, the camera does not know what the exposure should be so it just go all the way up to max shutter speed. I assume that you have the high speed sync on, otherwise it will be set to 1/200th max. Put it on TTL and then it will work(but the shutter will expo for ambiante unless you set the custom function to 1/200th fixed). Put it on tv and it will lock at 1/200th max, but anything below that you can use.
