Opinions on which canon DSLR gives the best image quality at higher ISOs?
Is there a thread on this subject already?
The range i have in mind are about ISO 1600 to about 6400.Format size is not really relevant

1D Mark IV closely followed by the 5D Mark II.

+1
If money is tight, 5Dc no questions ask. - Simple and less button to play around with, even a cave man can get the shot! :-)

I would think 1DMK4 followed by IDsMK3 and then 5DMK2.

The majority thinks it's 5D Mark II as per reviews on the net. However such cameras are mainly for indoor and landscape shooting purposes. Action cameras may not produce the best IQ but are preferred by wildlife and sports shooters for the "fast" features. Those are 1D Mk IV, 7D and 50D.

ISO 3200-6400: 5DII > 1DIV > 1DIII > 7D

The 5D (original) is about the same as the 7D at ISO 1600. You can't count on the 5D past 1600 since that's its highest hardware ISO.

The 1DsIII is not stellar at high ISO - it was intended from the start as a more of a studio camera, which value low ISO performance. It's not bad, it's just that the 1DIII was Canon's best high-ISO camera.
